Frequently asked questions
What is the schools ICT policy?
NETNS is a school that promotes and acknowledges the importance of ICT in the Primary School curriculum. ICT is concerned with the handling and processing of information using electronic devices.
The school has appointed an ICT co-ordinator, who is responsible for ensuring the coverage of ICT skills from Junior Infants up to Sixth Class. It is also the responsibility of the ICT co-ordinator to initiate training for Staff as well as pupils, if necessary.
The school has an I.T. suite of computers which aid collaborative and whole class teaching of ICT skills. There are also individual computers in classrooms. We have broadband internet access. This is a valuable resource and is used under staff supervision.
As a staff we feel that the teaching of ICT should offer opportunities for children to:
Develop ICT capability, including their knowledge and understanding of the importance of information, and how to select and prepare it.
Develop their skills in using hardware and software to manipulate information in their processes of problem-solving, recording and expressive work.
Develop their ability to apply their ICT capability to support their use of language and communication, and their learning in other areas.
Explore their attitudes towards ICT, its value for themselves, others and society, and their awareness of its advantages and limitations.
A copy of the full ICT policy is available from the school office.
